This is a serious vote to assess the viability of potentially a lot of hard, unpaid work by a currently small group of people. Please vote honestly, and leave a comment as to why you voted the way you did!

Happy to help out. Had my fill of committees that talk and achieve little. I would be keen to serve a committee with clear aims and a timetable to achieve them.
Its such a short time till "pride season" I think if we at least got the street party off the ground it would be a great foundation for a big event next year???

I would be willing to be involved in the committee and also set up on the day!!!
It is a major loss to a city the size of Newcastle to be without a Pride event for 2 years. Lets get this small event planned for this year so that we remain on the map.
Lets get planning!!!

Oh dear, committees. Not my thing I fear, but if there is something practical I can do I'll have a bash. Tech skills, painting, artwork, bumph writing skills on offer. Any takers?
Short time much stuff to do. Say, a muted localised thing this year to prime the pump for a proper bash in 2007. What d'ya say?
Recent dos have been locked away and almost ghetto events. We need to take ourselves out into the public arena once more, like the marches of the late eighties and early nineties. There's loads of time during the year to get together and compare our knitting patterns etc. amongst ourselves. Pride should be an expansive festival, demonstrating our presence, our cohesion (haha) and the fact that we can have FUN!

Hi Hippy,
Absolutely agee. "Committee" might be a word that gets us some public cash (not much at this late stage) but the aim must be to get SOMETHING worth doing and attending sorted this summer to plant a seed for future years.
A level of "organisation" is going to be necessary to get the financial support Newcastle-Gateshead's Pride event deserves but we must learn from the demise of Pride on Tyne and make sure that we let people know what we plan to do and invite them to get involved all the way down the line. We should also be business-like and make sure that the event costs as little and raises as much as it can to establish a pot for next year's event.
I'd like to think that loads of people will eventually make some contribution to the event - whether its making, donating, or turning up. We need to do something that people WANT to be -part of.
We need to start telling more people about these ideas and persuading them to get involved.

I'm in, get us back on the map, would be good to invite friends up here for a change, instead of having to go else where.

This is something I definitely would attend and support, however I have enough other committments that despite the fact I would love to be involved in any commitee etc. I sincerely just do not have the time as we are currently involved in setting up a new group in the Consett area and already run a gay night (plus work FT, and do voluntary work and most importantly be a good mother)... Any support I can give I will, and I do know people who would be keen to help out more.

It will all depend on exactly what's going to go on. I've said over on the other forums what a wonderful 9and long winded0 idea it would be for all the pubs to get together on this one and show Newcastle Council what we can really do!

Sadly Rebelyell, it looks as though the great big, "Let's show 'em what we can do" event is going to have to wait till next year. -In the end there doesn't seem to be the time to get the coordinated effort we all know we need to put on a Pride event anyone would be bothered to attend - let alone invite mates from other places to visit -That doesn't mean nothing is going to happen - far from it, there will be a number of events during August including a street party (tbc) all details will be revealed by various people in various places as soon as they are confimed - very soon. One thing I hope we can begin to do in September, is work to get all the bloomin' bars to act like grown-ups and help us have the annual festival our Scene and communities deserve If they won't do it for the punters can't they work out that the reason bar owners support Pride in other places IS BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM LOTS OF MONEY!! ahem. I think I'll go and lie down for a bit

Well, did anyone go to any of the 'Newcastle and Gateshead Pride' events from 27 July to 2 September???
I am talking about events other than strippers in eagle wed/fri/sat and cabaret yard on sun/mon. Why were these 'usual' events put under the Pide banner???
I was actually speaking to geordie expats from Edinburgh who came for Pride Weekend Party on Bank Holiday weekend rather than going to Manchester Pride. Lets just say they were not impressed!!!
Any comments from anyone? Did anyone like the varied events. Did anyone know (or notice) we had a Pride this year?

Oh the shame!
all over UK - and even rural Ireland, tiny towns and villages staged their first Pride events but we- a regional capitol no less couldn't manage it.
Seems to me that one lot of people have been running things for their own ends to keep people out whilst the rest of us have been sitting about waiting for something to happen so we can criticise it. Let's not let it happen next year please. - met a couple of guys from Manchester taking refuge in the eagle during the "pride event". They called our scene "pathetic" and vowed never to return... gave me their number though teehee

Ive voted top answer - newcastle really doesnt have a gay pride.. bar newcastle university which is not at all good, no major events are on, no music sets, and the scene doesnt really do much for it all, we have a better time on my gay UK`s than pride. I was at Manchester Pride this year, and I loved every mintue of it, major events clubs open till 8am etc... yeah fair enough manchester has a bigger scene than us, but that doesnt mean we cant summit out with our small scene (saying that it has grown since the closing of waterloo street powerhouse). so what do u guys think?
