Police in London are hunting two men after a 24 year old man was murdered in an apparent homophobic attack. The victim, who has yet to be identified, was assaulted on London's Clapham Common early on Saturday morning. He died later in hospital. A Scotland Yard spokesman has confirmed the incident is being treated as homophobic. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Scola, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "This attack was abhorrent and the victim was violently assaulted." Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information on two young white male suspects they are hunting. Bob Hodgson, from the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender advisory group, warned that others could be at risk if the attackers are not found. He said, "The main focus at this time is to catch the people that murdered this young man. This is a time for people from the community to come forward if they know anything at all." Police have described the two men they are looking for as white, aged around 20, one 6ft and the other shorter and stockier. Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8721 4111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Another so-called "queer bashing" in this country. What are your thoughts? Do you feel safe in the area you live, and would you feel any different about your safety if the people near you found out you were gay?

I know I am not the only one who finds these kinds of attacks sickening. Its awful to think that people can hate so much just based on someone’s sexual orientation, however it is not rare. Here in Newcastle you don’t have to go far on a Saturday night before you start hearing the hateful comments and name calling all based on what gender someone is attracted to.
I am not talking about the Bigg market or the Quayside but the gay scene (includeing this message board). It sickens me to hear gay men saying how much they hate lesbians and straights. How can we demand be treated with respect while encouraging others to use phrases like “dirty f***ing breeders”, or calling women “rancid fish”.
And as for the excuse “well I’ll treat them with respect when they treat me with respect”, how pathetic. It’s like being in the playground and saying I can do what I want cos the other kid started it. I have even heard gay men argue that it is okay to hate straights because most of the really evil people (Hitler, etc.) in the world were straight. I don’t know where to begin on that pathetic excuse.
The reason I have posted this message here is because it is easy to read these stories and use them as an excuse to fuel a hatred of “the straights” and the myth that MOST of them hate gays and want to kick the sh*te out of us. Instead we should look at this and see the damage pure ignorant hatred can do.
